JULIE WRIGHT
HEAD COACH WOMEN'S SOFTBALL
UNIVERSITY OF AKRON (OHIO)

Julie Wright was introduced as head softball coach at
The University of Akron on July 16, 2004. A native of
Westerville, Ohio, she came to the Zips program after
spending the previous five seasons as the top assistant at Kansas. The former softball student-athlete brings eight years of collegiate coaching experience to the UA program.

ROANNA BRAZIER
HEAD COACH WOMEN'S SOFTBALL
OHIO UNIVERSITY


Head coach Roanna Brazier enters her eighth season at
the helm of Ohio’s softball program, where she was first
hired in 1997 after spending three years as an assistant
under former coach Tracy Bunge.

In her seven years at Ohio, Brazier has compiled a 165-
200-1 overall record and an 84-95 mark in the Mid-
American Conference. Last season, the Bobcats finished 10-31-1 overall and 3-20 in conference play with outfielder Erin Chapman becoming the first Ohio player named first team all-region since 1995. The 2002 Bobcats finished 29-24 overall and set a new record for
postseason victories by winning three games in the
MAC Tournament.

JENNY JOHNSON-KAPPES
HEAD COACH WOMEN'S SOFTBALL
FRANKLIN COLLEGE (INDIANA)


Jenny Johnson-Kappes started her second tenure as Franklin College's head softball coach prior to the 2000 spring campaign.  She previously coached the Grizzlies from 1978-1991, leading Franklin to NAIA District 21 Championships in 1979 and 1982.  Johnson-Kappes also was named the district's top coach in 1985.  Heading into the 2005 spring season, she owns an overall coaching record of 255-266-1.

LAURA FILLIPP
HEAD COACH WOMEN'S SOFTBALL
UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN - PARKSIDE


Laura Fillipp is in her third season as head coach of the
University of Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers. In just her
second season, she led the Rangers to the Great Lakes
Valley Conference championship game.

Fillipp began her career in athletic administration as
the athletic director and physical education teacher at
St. Francis de Sales School in Lake Zurich, Ill, while
coaching basketball, volleyball, softball and soccer at
Barrington High School. Also, during that time, Fillipp
was the head volleyball coach at the College of Lake
County in Grayslake, Ill., for three seasons.

LESLIE KANTER
HEAD COACH WOMEN'S SOFTBALL
UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA (FLORIDA)

The Spartans have put together a string of three
consecutive winning seasons under Leslie Kanter
including last year’s 35-14 mark, the winning-est in
school history. Her eight-year record of 169-182 does
not truly reflect the improvement shown in the overall
administration of UT’s softball program and the players’
ability to compete in one of the toughest NCAA II
conferences.

KAREN BAIRD
HEAD COACH WOMEN'S SOFTBALL
EASTERN MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY


Karen Baird is in her third season at the helm of the
Eastern Michigan University softball program. She was
appointed to the position on September 3, 2002.

Baird is the sixth coach in the 24-year history of EMU
softball. She came to Eastern after serving five years
as the head coach at Division III Albion College (1998-
2002). In her short tenure, Baird led the Britons to
conference and national honors. Her 2001 team
recorded the most wins in school history, posting a 29-
16 record and capturing the Michigan Intercollegiate
Athletic Association tournament championship. It was
Albion’s first-ever conference tournament title. In 2002,
the Britons went 26-10 overall, and finished third in the
MIAA. In addition, during the 2000 campaign, Albion’s
squad posted a 3.53 GPA, which was the best mark in
Division III. In 2001, her team recorded a 3.4 GPA, which
ranked third in the nation.

TERESA WILSON

UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA


Teresa Wilson joined the Arizona staff in October after establishing herself as a nationally recognized mentor at four programs as head coach.
